The need for change

Over the past 10 years there have been a series of reports and a number of directional bodies established to identify and promote the need for significant change and radical improvement required within the construction industry.

It has been recognised that construction can learn from other sectors of the economy by re-addressing its problems and focusing on delivering the needs and expectations of the end user...!!!!

This required the culture of construction to become far less adversarial between clients, consultants, contractors and subcontractors. This has key implications within the contractual chain and managerial procedures; understanding of each parties respective role and working practices, in order to facilitate a more integrated planning, design and construction process.

One such report identified committed leadership, a focus on the customer, integration of the process and the team around the product, a quality driven agenda and commitment to people as the key drivers required to implement change and develop substantial improvement to the project process.

These drivers are still recognised as key initiative improvements today.
“Construction too often fails to meet the needs of modern businesses that must be competitive in international markets, and rarely provides best value for clients and taxpayers”
